Special Effects Page - Bud
Bud (a.k.a. John Hasert) and I started working together on special effects around July of 1991. We were roommates at college and decided to make
some extra money working at Nightmare on Fifth Street in Austin (they've since moved to Congress St.). That experience helped us get motivated into doing our own effects. We started that Halloween with a small bottle of latex ordered from Stage Door Studios. I was stegasaurus (sp) head and bud was evil forehead dude or something like that.
We immediately got off to the rush we got when people ran off screaming when they saw us (especially when they dropped their purses). After that experience we started working on more and more stuff together, merely just to have fun. We eventually worked on Tom Legros's Guinea Men together. Bud was more of a supporting role, handling more of the sculpting and off site effects, while I worked onsite everyday during the shoot. Bud ended up with a few scenes in that movely actually, and was quite helpful in pulling off our first feature film. We haven't done much together since because our schedules never coincide, but watch out for us in the future!
